Photography Workshop in Andalucía by Jeremy Tilford

I attended a food and travel photography workshop lead by Tim Clinch (http://www.timclinchphotography.com) at the beautiful Finca Buenvino (http://www.fincabuenvino.com) in Andalucia in October 2016.

This was my first photography course so I went with some trepidation. I chose Tim’s course as I has admired his work in Black and White Photography Magazine and my wife and I have a love of south west Spain and its food. The setting could not have been better and the hospitality provided by our hosts Sam and Jeannie Chesterton was wonderful. It created a really convivial atmosphere among the the small group of five photographers.

Tim is very much a get on with it course leader encouraging us to start making images from the very first morning. The ice-breaker “tortilla” project got us off to flying start and the group really gelled and any initial apprehension disappeared. Highlights of the week for me were the visits to the Cinco Jotas Iberico Ham factory in Jabugo and a wonderful lunch in Linares de la Sierra.

Photographically I learned the importance of slowing down and looking at the composition and taking that step back. In the afternoon Lightroom sessions Tim’s approach that if you cannot get the image you want in five adjustments - don't bother - has really influenced my workflow. It is now so much quicker and involves considerably less fiddling.

Tim’s advocacy of iPhone photography has encouraged me to post much more on Instagram and get my images out there. In fact this website was made as a direct result of the course and the need to get my images off the hard drive and out into the world.

Big thanks to Tim, Sam and Jeannie and my co-attendees Peter, James, Andy and Glauco for a great week which proved photography can be real fun.
